Day 5

This morning we were awake at 7:00 am again, so decided to pack up and leave and have a full day. We quite like leaving early it gives us more time to do more things. First we headed to Solvang which is a great little place, basically it was started by a lot of Danish settlers in 1911 and has since grown in population, it is apparently a good resemblance to their homeland, I don’t know about that but we loved it. So first things first we went straight to a Danish bakery for an early morning coffee and Danish which was lush. After that we had an appointment with a few glasses of wine at the Rusack Vineyard and winery which again was lovely, we tried 6 types of wine and sat outside overlooking their vineyard, very peaceful and relaxing. It was now getting close to lunch time but we didn’t want to stick around so we got back on the road and punched in Pismo Beach into our SatNav. We arrived about 90 minutes later and decided although a lovely place, it was too far from where we wanted to be, so we had a quick look around and headed North on US1 and tried to get within 2-3 hours of San Francisco. We settled in San Simeon after seeing some great scenery on the way, into one of our old favourites “Best Western” Cavalier Hotel. We got ourselves a ocean front room and decided to relax on our balcony and listen to the waves crashing for a therapeutic hour. Tonight we will eat locally and maybe have a beer or two in a bar across the road. A lovely day today for the views and we already know tomorrow will be better.
